about

I made this song today, 6/5/20, for my mother.
She was a passionate social activist as well as a musician and teacher. She was there in Selma & Birmingham with Dr King in the 60s, with the Sandanistas in Nicaragua in the 80s, working to help women in prison towards the end of her life; always the one to volunteer to go to prison for civil disobedience. Memories of demonstrators camped on the living room floor, of being surrounded by "I Shall not be Moved" and "We Shall Overcome" as a child in the streets with seas of people, jubilant.
We're still weeping for the same reasons.
Any sales of this track will go directly to a nonprofit in support of the NAACP Legal Defense, BLM, or women- right now, leaning towards smaller local (Charlottesville/Richmond Va) bail groups; will gladly give whatever you give to any of those organizations of your choice.
May we rise.

lyrics

No amount of grief
no amount of shame or apology
will restore justice.
Rise up, breathe.
